Ron Paul
Posted by c0nfu53d on 01-02-2008 in Who should be elected President of the United States in 2008?Hey all, I'm new here, and decided to give this thread my first post.
Of course none of the candidates will be able to do everything that they say, however, I truly believe in Ron Paul's message. He's as constitutional as anyone can get. My question is, however... why would you not want to vote in someone who completely abides by the constitution, unless you do not believe the constitution and our liberties are important?
I like his idea of reopening an investigation on 9/11, as there are missing ends, such as why WTC 7 collapsed without any planes hitting it. Supposedly a fire, but then again, would that really cause it to fall to the ground like the big towers did? Just a thought.
Border control is one of his ideas. Of course, it's not only his idea. However, George Bush's policies, and his deal with the Mexican president and the Canadian Prime Minister is threatening our country's sovereignty (North American Union - combining Mexico, Canada, and the US into one country, basically). What do you all think? Do you want to aid in keeping our sovereignty, or be in a possibly whole different country by 2010?
He wants to get rid of the DEA, which basically means ending the War on Drugs, which has had many, many unforseen consequences. Consequences include the proliferation of drugs, not the ending of them. Giving possible criminals a business to make lots, and lots of money from selling and importing drugs. Harmless, non-violent, otherwise law-abiding drug users being put into prison for many years, thus ruining their lives more than the drug they used could have. He wants to see to it that patients who benefit from using Marijuana as a medicine more than the big Pharmaceutical industry get to use their preferred medicine. The DEA, however, is stopping these people from being able to live a decent life. For some people, cannabis is the only medicine that really helps them. Every month or so you hear of a medical marijuana dispensary in California (or multiple dispensaries) getting "busted," and taken down. There goes the medicine for ill people, who choose Marijuana because it doesn't have the ill effects of their other medicinal options.
Constitutionality! These aren't all of his views, but they are the views that I agree with him on 100%. In an America that is eroding year after year, due to the Bush Administration's scheming politics to slowly convert this nation into a fascist rule (I'm not using 'fascist' as a rhetorical device), we need somebody who can defend the constitution at the presidential level. But the battle cannot be won with Ron Paul alone, even if he is elected. People seem to think he is our savior. However, he's not a savior, he's a wake-up call. This battle must be won by The People, for the most part. The one problem that I see with any candidate getting into office, including Ron Paul, is that the next president will inherit the increase in powers that Bush gained. And as it was said by Lord Acton in 1887, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."
Let's embrace the constitution for once. Is that not a good idea?
