Ah, the joys of being a webslut...
Posted by munineye on 01-04-2008 in Myspace vs. FacebookI am part of both MySpace and Facebook, and a few other social sites out there. You know what I check every day? Facebook. Most of my friends are there. My family is on there.
And while Facebook has these glaring applications, MySpace has the tackiest profile pages this side of Las Vegas, replete with tons of videos, music files, and animated greetings that just make me want to vomit.
Sure, MySpace has done great things for bands, and Facebook is trying to do that too. (Better late than never.) But MySpace has a general reputation for sleaze because anyone can sign up and be, well, anyone. Originally, Facebook was the one place where you had to be a real person before you signed up. But it still hasn't made news like MySpace has, what with the children getting propositioned during chats with MySpace members, or a girl killing herself because another woman was posing as a boy and chatted her up enough that she thought she was in love with "him".
Facebook has yet to have it's scandal. And until it does, I'll continue to preach its' virtues while keeping as many applications as I can keep track of. Spring cleaning once in a while didn't hurt anyone.
