censorship is futile

Posted by Neeraja on 01-06-2008 in Video game censorship, do you support? Clinton does.

Censorship is a parent's defense for not raising their children properly. Honestly, if the "evils" of the world are not found in video games, they will be found in some other venue..and kids will find it. However it should be up to parents to instill that level of what's right and wrong into each kid's head.. I mean, any normally raised child should be able to attest to the fact that throwing bombs at your opponent is not the best realistic solution to any problem, regardless of how fun it is in electronic form. Most children can differentiate the difference between what can be expected out of a game and what can be expected out of reality after a certain age..and censorship is just giving society the chance to waste their efforts that can be better spent elsewhere

In response to: This may sound great, but it isn't really...

If you ask me, I think it's completely unnecessary. Not everyone who plays a violent video game grows up to be a criminal or an abuser. It should be left up to the parents of a child and ultimately it's going to be with or without legislation since a parent could go to the store and buy it for the child their behalf.

You can argue all you want about how Doom was the cause for school shooting as the media has widely publicized but I've played games just as violent and so have millions of other kids in this world, where's the statistic about that?

All this media control from groups like the MPAA, RIAA, DMCA are really getting tiring. They lobby hard for it and they get it because they have money and influence. It's just another win for them.

They implemented ESRB ratings on video games, we've solved the problem years ago. Stick with it, I don't see a problem with the current solution; there isn't a need to censor.
