Video games + guns = video games + guns
Posted by Spectrum on 01-24-2008 in Video game censorship, do you support? Clinton does.Video games and guns are two items that do not combine when mixed together. Video games can sure stimulate that imagination (hence: fan fiction *shiver*) but guns are not your normal everyday tool that one would use unless they happen to be a police officer or a soldier.
If guns and video games do not mix, why is there a supposed link between violence that ends in murder related to a criminal's exposure to or desensitization via a video game? Would it hold up as evidence to identify a murder as premeditated? Even if the name of a killable character in that game matched the victim?
Minors shouldn't be playing games like that without their parents permission. If a violent video game that was rated for an older age was played by a minor who later carried out a murder, should the parents also carry responsibility for not taking responsibility and allowing their child to play a game not intended for that age group?
It seems to be a stick situation that may not solve for completely fair and hard evidence every single time, but there's no reason to penalize a normal person from getting a peice of entertainment, so long as it violates no other content standard or rule. Guns on the other hand, should be handled completely differently, ideally varying at the state level of enforcement.
