sms is a wonderful technology and can be very convenient in some situations.

To have a conversation, though, it's definitely better to call. I feel that having long conversations over text is impersonal (unless in class..uh I mean you should pay attention in class, kids) and shows lack of care by both parties (or the party that started the text chain).
