I agree. Perhaps the reason a made bed is looked upon favorably is because it is evidence of a disciplined owner. Making your bed may seem unnecessary when you look at it from a practical standpoint, but maybe our mothers nag(ged) us because that small bit of discipline gained from this easy act may translate into something greater at school or in the work force.
And can't you just hear the serious man voice in your head?
"Studies show that 87% of teenagers who make their beds are likely to be more responsible than their peers in the classroom who don't..."

to me, it's more a sign of discipline than anything else. If I go to someone's room and see the beds in disorder, it doesn't create a very favorable impression. A made up bed also looks really tidy.

Not always a waste of time
If I can spend less than 30 seconds in the morning doing something that will keep or make somebody happy, it's completely worth it to me. I don't normally make my bed, but I made it for the first time in 6 months before my mom visited for the holidays yesterday.

It really makes your room look like a mess though and although i am very lazy, sometimes it's nice to take 2 seconds (yes literally 2 seconds) to straighten your comforter over your bed. Sometimes it's nice to walk into your room and your bed look nice. It also makes it easier and more comfortable to sit on your bed :)
At home i can't complain. My grandma makes my bed for me when i'm out :)

I agree-complete waste of time. If there were some hidden benefits to making ones bed (that it gets rid of the astronomic amounts of germs that accumulates in your bed for instance..apparantly your pillow itself gains several pounds in weight weekly from the skin and dust it agglomerates,) that would be pretty cool. But to my knowledge, making a bed is just that-making a bed.

"white-washed tomb" comes to mind.

Even though I've always been pestered by my mother to make my bed, I've never really quite understood why. She claims that it looks good and she's probably right but is it really worth making your room look good for about 12-15 hours in the day only to mess it up again daily?
I don't see the point, if we all just stop making our beds it won't seem like a bad thing occuring. There are other things to worry about in this world.
