Homophobia, anyone?!

From what I've experienced, it seems like guys have a tendency to be less accepting towards gay people and seem to openly denounce them more than girls do. Why is that?!

Also, what would you do if you met a really charming guy/girl one day, and after you've gotten to know him/her quite well you were quite attracted to them...but then after a while you found out that he/she had a sex operation--would you still be attracted to them romantically?

Homophobia is used incorrectly to describe people that disagree. It is an attempt to use the bull shit that is Political Correctness to suggest that people are weak and afraid of homosexuals. Further, while trying to be PC in many other aspects of modern liberalism, people over look the applicable meaning of the word gay. If gay can mean homosexual it can also mean stupid/dumb/whatever.


About homosexuals:
It is obviously a choice or deformity. Homosexuality, if genetic, must be a recessive trait and therefore should have been weaned out of the population centuries ago. Since genealogical evidence suggests that recessive traits are usually eliminated over time, we must assume that homosexuality is either a choice or some sort of illness (chemical imbalance maybe) or birth defect.
If an illness or defect, then we should do everything in our powers to fix them.
I subscribe to the theory of choice. And since it is a choice and not something inherent (like skin color), it can be discriminated against legally (like smokers are discriminated against). But because I'm for liberty (a true liberal like Locke if I remember correctly) I would support homosexuals marrying.

I know a little something about genetics (have taken a genetics class already) so I wanted to provide CrAz3D with some genetics clarification. A recessive trait ("aa") does not simply get "weaned out" of a population--unless its a lethal recessive (which I'm pretty sure homosexuality is not). Most recessive alleles are retained through a heterozygote (advantage--e.g. Aa) or are found in such small frequencies that selection takes millions of years to reduce a population a tenth of a percent--essentially we have a calculus limit. We may not see the evidence of the trait in the phenotype but it may be retained in the genotype.

At this time, the relationship between homosexuality and genetics is being investigated, but it is likely to be a combination of both genetic and environmental/sociological factors.

As for Sobe's question--most contemporary males are the type that are repulsed by gay males but aroused by lesbians--essentially they're hypocrites. Sociologically, the male role seems to be centered around retaining the machismo character--which is threatened apparently by homosexuality. So essentially homosexuals are challenging societal norms of past ages.

Where's your "stupid" definition of gay? It's slang.

Just because it's a word that you use to mean stupid, doesn't mean that's what it actually means.
As for homosexuality being a "defect", people have thought that for thousands of years. It didn't stop people from doing it, and it's not exactly like a true homosexual would be passing on their genes. So how does this whole "biological" thing work? Children and adults are not "hardwired" for practically anything. It's a nature vs. nuture debate. Sometimes, teens feel like they need to rebel, and so it's a choice. But other times, it's something that they really feel that they have no choice in. There are several people I can think of off the top of my head in my life that didn't have a choice in the matter. Their families disown them, they get fired from their jobs, their neighborhood shuns them. Why would someone choose that? How can that be a choice? Telling a gay person not to be is like telling a devout Jewish person to just stop being Jewish. If it were that easy, Hitler's actions wouldn't have killed so many people.

If homosexuality is always a choice (as a rule), then so is religion, and most things you take for granted in your life. Your job, where you live, what you teach your children, how you treat your children, these are all obvious choices.
But your sexuality? Definitely a two-backed beast of a different color.

But homosexuals usually do not breed. Shouldn't that push them out of society?

As far as definitions, gay didn't originally mean homosexual, it developed from the slang meaning. Just as queer did.
Words can and do continue to adopt new meanings that are still valid. I always get pissed off if me/someone says "that's gay" in reference to something bad that just happened and then a PC-er says "NAME, that's not gay, it sucks but it's not gay."

Basically with my last post, I was trying to shoot down your argument that homosexuality is a simple Mendelian recessive inheritance. Thus, a single trait for homosexuality probably does not get passed on because as you say, "homosexuals usually do not breed". The rest of my post was background on how unlikely it would be to eliminate a recessive (if homosexuality was recessive--which it isn't)

I've been thinking about this more (again on a genetic level) and wonder if homosexuality might be affected by gene dosage/regulation. If we boil it down, we are all organisms making similar proteins from the relatively same genome--which control everything about us--ATP synthesis to human emotion--regulation of those genes could be an important factor.

Of course, I still believe that homosexuality is the result of both the human being (genetic/biological/psychological), their environment, and the interaction between the two (sociological). I would not say it wholly resides in only one of these domains.

i dont think people should be allowed to discriminate against gay people in terms of jobs (if the job is a public corporation), or use hate speech/violence. other than that, i think its everyones right to have an opinion, no matter whether homosexuality is actually genetic or not. i'm bi, and i think its acceptable to be homophobic, as long as you dont interfere in other peoples lives.

Ok well i am Bi-sexual i have ever since i liked boys liked girls the same way. But had never told anyone for fear there was something wrong with me. Until i met a friend who was bi leaning FAR towards gay to talk to me about it so i because openly bi. I have even had a girlfriend. But after talking to my friend about it i told my boyfriend who had talked a million times about wanting me and another girl to get together i thought he would like it. Nope instead he flipped out and said he never wanted to see me with a girl like that anymore. Then later on he started asking me questions form the kinsy scale...i didn't realize it until he said he was going to have me take a little quiz to see if i was really the way i said i was....he hated all my friends ( Most of whom are bi/gay/lez) I did finally break it off after that last bit..

It is thanks to Homophobs like my ex that people can't get married. It is thanks to homophobes that people cant openly express their love for one another. and not to bash religions but it is also thanks to Christians for not having the open mind to let people love no matter who or what they love...


Now another thing... I think it is because women are more open minded and such to be able to accept it or even try beign with another girl. The reason i think we are alittle more open to say we are the way we are is... look at porn. Men LOVE to see girl on girl stuff. Thats a reason hundreds of girls say they are bi. So that they can get more guys. I know from experiance if you put bi on your profile you will get A TON of friend requests. I don't quite know why guys are more apt to be homophobes. I have talked to my friends about it...but i can say that i have never met a woman with homophobia in my life.

Seriously, homophobes make me so angry.

I am a heterosexual female; I have several gay/lesbian friends and family members whom I love dearly. They are wonderful people who are completely undeserving of the discrimination they often face.
Who cares whether a person prefers men over women, or vice versa? It all boils down to love. We have the unalienable right to love whomever we choose, no matter what is socially acceptable.
And its not like straight people have perfect relationships or "proper" sex. Just think about all of the strange fetishes and perversions that some heterosexuals engage in. They make homosexuality look tame.

So, moral of the story: Don't judge. Base your opinion of others upon their moral fiber and personality rather than on their basic sexuality.

Just because a guy loves a guy or a girl loves a girl, why pick on them? Because they're different? So what?
