Re: More Than a Feeling - Boston
Marriage is an evolving institution. For example, I could, back in the day, have married four chicks at once. In fact, I could have married children, waiting for them to mature and then consummate when they are of a reasonable age. I imagine marriage was a way for people to rationalize their desire to have sex and proclaim god or their city or king or whatever wanted it. Given, marriage has been around longer than religion, but it could easily be used as a means to obtain an untouchable...

Every religion has some kind of meaning to it, and I doubt there is so original a religion anymore that is does not have some kind of higher power, symbolism, goal, etc. that has never been thought of before. If one person chooses a reiligion that is laid back and another chooses a more ascetic religion, neither can be sure of its veracity. It falls on faith and community. There is doing right by others and there's not. You do the best you can as much as possible. There might be...

I admit that most of the sequels I've seen sucked. Sucked hard. But I will continue to see them, hoping for one of the good ones. It's just like seeing a movie or reading a book for the first time. You don't know if you'll like it until you try it. For example, the Saw movies were, I thought (before seeing them) stupid as hell gore-fests. Now, after seeing them, I know I was correct, but there was an engaging story underlying the slashing and tearing. I...

I am all for cyborgs riding on flying tigers that shoot lasers from their eyes. The downfall being that if one of those tigers gets sick, they're all dead.

Vegetarians who say they do it for love of animals are disregarding the amount of lives lost when their vegetables ripen. Unless you grow your own food in your own yard without killing one organism, don't talk about a regard for all life. Ever stepped on an ant? Ever killed a fly? Have you ever, in your life, taken something's life? How big does a life have to be before it is worth defending? Is a baby worth less than a 2,000 lb japanese model named Oroku Saki?

Also, pie. Fix it all with pie.

This is all based on some assumption that humans are above being part of nature. What seems to be going around is that we, as the 'top of the food chain', are somehow ABOVE doing what a coyote or bear or any predator does. What we do is natural, what we synthesize is a natural process of our interaction with our environment. Human beings are a part of nature, not above it. If we harvest and kill these animals, this is not against the grain of nature. It is not an abomination of...

Crap, man, I am beginning to wonder if you do really talk like this in normal conversation. An aural delight, the ladies must call you. Cunning linguist. Anyway, I learned somewhat about Zazen Buddhism today and a portion of the theories some of those meditative processes employ and I thought of our correspondence. Specifically, it was to think of something negative and to try to think of an antidote or positive reaction to it. Thusly began my search into the beginning of this...
