Sometimes I do wonder whether Macs are actually worth the buy. When you go to apple page: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=MacBook you'll notice how expensive the hardware is. Any PC setup is far less expensive and you're still allowed to setup an alternative operating system such as Linux (like a Mac), honestly the only reason I am even interested in purchasing a Mac at this point is to compare its hardware against big manufacturers like Dell....
Posted by Suhail on 12-16-2007 in Windows vs. MacWhat about the rest of the religions?
Well, if that's the case than you should also support breaks for other religions in the world. The fact is, you simply cannot support every type of religion or belief. You cannot ignore that the majority of Americans are Christians and it's difficult to break a tradition in America that has gone on so long. Really it's case of compromise. I do know that many companies and schools are lenient if you can explain to them that you need to take a break for a certain religious...

I am not leaning either way but what created the protein? It leads back to the question of how any of this was created at all. All in all though, it's this complex thinking that makes us human and this debate an everlasting one. If I had to lean, it would be towards a mystical force inventing matter, light, and even proteins but really I am pretty open to discussions and theories to what is arguably a better reason.

Who needs something as simplistic as teleportation when you can simply stop time and take all your sweet time to walk to the destination you wish to get to? Of course this is just one benefit of the overall amazing super power. Bad grade in math? Just stop time travel and do it over! Wishing to relive a moment? Go back! Need time to move a bit faster, travel to the future! Wishing you didn't waste your time reading Neeru's post on teleportation...well you can't really do...
Posted by Suhail on 12-17-2007 in What would be the most beneficial superpower?Re: One (wo)man, one vote
I tend to agree and disagree to a large part of this argument. I see the merits of completely dumping the electoral system but at what cost? Both of these systems can be easily gamed and the one currently instituted is gamed based on exactly what neeru is stating: spending the most time in states that are essential to their ability to attain presidency. The electoral system doesn't accurately voice the individual American's vote if I live in a predominantly republican state and I...

Marriage is less of a legal concept than you think and is more of a cultural concept and experience. You're right in many aspects however I think the concept of marriage has devolved into a legal binding contract rather than a ceremony celebrating two people who appear to actually love one another. It really depends on your view in today's society and whether you wish to accept the devolved meaning or perhaps "adjusted" meaning of marriage in 2007. It's all...

Why do you seem to imply that killing a baby cow is worse than killing an adult cow, chicken, pig, <place another animal here>? It doesn't quite make any sense to justify the senseless killing of other animals with the fact that we're wasteful of the current animals killed for mass human consumption. Maybe someone thinks snake tastes better, it's really irrelevant. I don't see how eating a whale, dog, or cat is any different or less humane than eating a...

The Mozilla foundation makes money through incentives from google and other companies. Google invests big money so that its search box is in the right hand corner of FireFox for everyone to use. Lots of foundations that are financially stable or profitable do this. You'll also notice Yahoo, amazon, ebay are also in this list of search engines ready to go with FireFox. Posted by Suhail on 12-19-2007 in What are your thoughts on filesharing and piracy?Microsoft is more than just smart business moves.
You can say Microsoft makes smart business moves and everything is political but the fact of the matter is there are a lot of brilliant minds at Microsoft. Can you provide evidence that OpenGL is a superior graphic library? It seems like an oxymoron to run a graphics library that's lightweight generally when graphics and video games generally coincide with the average user. If you know the average gamer, you know that they will want to run the best hardware they can and therefore...

Have you seen the difference in DX9 to DX10? It's extraordinary, I'll post some screens later and you'll see that DX10 is less a business tactic and more of a quality piece of technology that needs to be unleashed.
Posted by Suhail on 12-19-2007 in Windows vs. MacHumans, what's our value?
For many of us, we feel as though all humans are created equally but often at times people, in my opinion, have a double standard for the philosophy that it does not apply to anything outside the human race. I take a much broader stance on the philosophy, that humans are not necessarily anything more divine or valuable than any other organism. I came across this argument while debating with a pro-life advocate, just for the sake of doing so, and my question was, if you're pro-life,...

Seems to me that's its a business thing kwidge, if you made money on the first one, make another and make more money. Hence why you will never see the end of spider mans, supermans, etc. They are legendary films and there will always be remakes of good things if not sequels.
Posted by Suhail on 12-20-2007 in Sequels vs. Orignal IdeasRe: Re: Humans, what's our value?
You missed the point completely. You derive such emotional attachment with your mother, girlfriend, who ever because of your personal experiences with them not simply because they are human. It's obvious that your personal experience is obviously enhanced because you're both human, there are advantages to that. Let's work with what you've stated thus far: "I love my dog, she is a great companion and I will be very, very sad when she passes away." Let...
Posted by Suhail on 12-22-2007 in Are humans the most valuable organisms on the planet?Making your bed is a waste of time
Even though I've always been pestered by my mother to make my bed, I've never really quite understood why. She claims that it looks good and she's probably right but is it really worth making your room look good for about 12-15 hours in the day only to mess it up again daily? I don't see the point, if we all just stop making our beds it won't seem like a bad thing occuring. There are other things to worry about in this world.

I think part of understanding a vegetarian's beliefs coincides with your ability to understand them at all. There are many vegetarians and they all have different beliefs. In the case of vegetarians who are Jains (reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism) they generally believe in killing the least amount of organisms they can to sustain their own life. Many Jains where sheets over their mouths to avoid kill airborne organisms and sometimes sweep the ground they walk on to avoid...

If you ask me, I think it's completely unnecessary. Not everyone who plays a violent video game grows up to be a criminal or an abuser. It should be left up to the parents of a child and ultimately it's going to be with or without legislation since a parent could go to the store and buy it for the child their behalf. You can argue all you want about how Doom was the cause for school shooting as the media has widely publicized but I've played games just as violent and so...

So am I to understand that your reasoning is that because Marijuana is less detrimental to society in comparison to alcohol that we should legalize the substance? I don't think that makes for a great argument honestly. Alcohol slipped through our fingers, it should be outlawed as well. Instituting marijuana in my honest opinion does far more harm then it does good. Just because, based on your reasoning, it is less harmful in comparison doesn't mean we should legalize it....

I've been doing web development for a while now and I've gone through numerous languages, while I have not tinkered with all of them, I have seen and played with most. PHP is a messy language for starters. It's attractive to any new programmers or "scripters" as I should say. I agree with syalam, Firefox has invaluable plug-ins from a developer stand-point such as LiveHTTP Headers, Firebug, etc. I wouldn't necessarily go with Safari, it is not anywhere close to having any majority market share which means developers will almost always tend to making their websites render well last in Safari or not at all. I have also had both items so hopefully I can give a decent review. This is largely dependent on the generation builds and models.
