Re: Eid should be a national holiday

The key to this would be to make it so people have religion days that they can use to get off of work for their religious holidays. The problem that seems to occur is that you don't get Eid off while Chirstmas is something that everyone gets off. Like others have said this is due mostly to the fact that the majority of people are Chirstians, and even many that don't celebrate it. Therefore Eid probably shouldn't be a national holiday since it really wouldn't be useful to...

Re: One (wo)man, one vote

This seems like a big problem. While it is very rare that a person loses the presidential election while not getting at least a plurality of the vote, 4 times with two going to the House of Represenatives. The problem comes with voter apathy, which as you say comes into effect with the so called solid states. The effect that this could end up having is singnifenctly lowering the actual number of votes that a person gets in the states that they are going to lose. Thus due to the uncertainly...

Re: Teleportation, hands down

It would be even better if we could control the fabric of space and time, like Hiro. Being able to stop time, and also teleport when needed along with being able to go to different times and see how they lived would be pretty cool.

Stats don't Lie

When you talk about the best player it gets difficult because of what you look at when you decide who is the best player. Are you looking at winning, or at offense, defense, or what. When you look at a player all around I think it does become clear that their are only really a couple of players who could be called the best. The first of these would be Dwight Howard. With all due respect to Duncan, who is one of the if not the best pf of all time, Howard has taken over the top big man role,...

What do Humans add?

How valuable are humans to the planet is related directly to the question of what do humans add to the planet when compared to the rest of the organisms. When it comes down it to i feel that humans just don't add much and in fact take so much away. We have devastated the living places of countless other living beings, and other effects such has the emissions of toxic chemicals have had a negative effect on the planet. I think that like was said earlier we value humans due to the fact...

Re: Re: Re: addition....

I just want to say that it is not fair at all to compare humans to bears and coyotes. The fact that we have a brain, meaning a rational thinking one, is exactly what separates us from animals. The whole other animals do it therefore we can is crazy. I mean other animals eat their own offspring, does that justify humans eating their kids? In this matter I feel that it would be overall better if people would stop eating meat. It would be able to increase the amount of food being produced,...

Both Hard

Both the LSAT and the MCAT are in my mind the hardest for two different reasons. The LSAT draws its difficulty from the nature of the test. The games and arguments that are in the test are something that is never really taught in class, and can be hard to study. Has Fariz said you could theoretically memorize everything on the MCAT while you can't do that with the LSAT. However the MCAT is just an insane test in and of itself. The low scores are proof of this, with getting a 40/45...

Mostly Skill

While all games of chance require some amount of luck it is mostly skill that plays out when it comes to poker. For instance being able to read your opponent is critical otherwise your good hand that you got by luck will loss to your opponent's better lucky hand. Skill is what will allow a player to get to the point where they can win with luck. In the end a game of poker does require luck to win, but skill can allow you to almost create your own luck.

Obama

Having won the Iowa caucus Obama has managed to take the steam out of Hillary's engine and gained front runner status. A win in NH I think would give him a clear path to the nomination, especially were he to win there by a big margain. I think the real key is that Edwards managed to overtake Hillary in Iowa which puts even more pressure on her to win, and further deflates her. I ama also hopeful that Obama pulls this out as he seems to be the guy with a fresh set of ideas and a...

Need to help People out

Having English be the offical language would do so much more harm then good to the nation. Its wrong to turn people away, or not be able to help people just because they don't speak english. If english were to be made the offical language then hospitals would have problems trying to help non-english speakers and legal proceedings would be complicated and lawsuit would be sure to follow. I'm not saying that people shouldn't try to learn english, and in fact I feel that if a...

Simulated Drowning

When it comes right down to it all waterboarding does is simulate drowning. i think this alone merits the title of torture, and I think that everybody should be able to agree on that. It disgusts that there are still people out there that feel that waterboarding is not in fact torture at all, and those people I feel are crazy. The only justifcation that can be given is the need to gain information from suspects and that this is a good way to gain that information, however I feel that the...

Personal Touch matters

Texting has its perks, mostly in conveying the same thing to a bunch of people, like come play ball or what not, and is valuable for those times when you can't really just talk to someone or they can't talk back. But other then that calling a person is much better as it conveys a personal touch that texting lacks, along with greatly enhancing the communaction abilities for both sides.

No thanks to Marijuna

First off its crazy to think that any action can effect yourself and only youself, in so far that humans naturally interact with others everything you do will have some effect on other people. I think its safe to say that marijuna will have some effect on you that would be catorgerized has a negative one, which I feel is enough to question if it should be legalized and therefore we should keep it illegal until a positive outweighing effect is shown that would warrent the change. Also to...

Limited Use

Swearing is not considered good for the most part, and i tend to agree with that idea. I think that swearing is more useful for when you get really mad and are upset. At some point the words loss their meaning if you use them to much, therefore I feel they should be used only when they are really needed.

Obama has the momtentum

The question that really comes up here is how will Obama perform on the 5th when so many states hold their elections. Right now it looks like Hillary is holding decent leads in most of the states, especially the big ones. However Obama has some momentum going for him, his did better then expected in Nevada and also took South Carolina by a huge margain. Now he is also has the support of Ted Kennedy which will be useful in helping to shore up some of the areas that he is weaker in. I think...

Re: The Illegal stand of United States against the Iran's civil Nuclear program

I think the reason behind the whole thing is fear. The leaders in the U.S. want people to be afraid and they want them to be afraid of something that could help them gain their goals. Iran is a logical target since their leadership is very vocal about their distaste of America. So if you want to get people afraid and allow this will give them the same justifcation that they used for Iraq to allow them to invade Iran. I think at this point in time Bush realized that they just were not going...

Re: John McCain

While I agree that McCain is a very experienced person, and he seems like the best choice on the republican side, I disagree in that he should be the next president. My primary objection is the basis of political beliefs that create a fundmental gap between what i think the government should do and what any of the republicans should do. What I wanted to discuss though was this idea of experience being a indicator of being a good president in the future. Some of the greatest presidents...

Working Together Makes Everyone Better

I'm not really sure if it's even possible to have the type of unilateral power now for any state that was possesed by ancient societies, such as the Roman Empire, and the British Empire. The mere exsistence of nukes and the fact that so many nations have them makes it impopssible for any country to truely act in whatever way it wants. I will agree that the US needs to stay involved in international affiars and it should avoid going back into its cave of isolationism, however I...

How about those Hornets?

I'm going to have you agree with you here, Chris Paul has just been unbelievable, getting almost 20 points and 11 assists a game to go along with 4 rebounds, and a couple of steals. Even more importantly is how well he's having his team play, no one would have said that midway through the season the Hornets would be leading the west. I see Paul as doing what Nash did when he won he's first MVP, leading his team to an unexpectedly high finish while putting up big numbers. The...

Batman is the coolest

When we discuss the best superhero it is sort of hard to make the right choice, mostly because it is so hard to define what best means. Does it mean the most powerful? In that case it would probably be Superman, whose powers are so great. However I feel that best doesn't just include the most powerful, but rather includes some other things, such as personailty and appearances. In this way I feel that Batman is the "best." His costume is pretty cool, he is the dark knight, and...

For the first kiss I think that either their house or your own is the best place. However some of these seem to be a little bit extreme, on yours/their bed for the first kiss seems a little much, while others seem like they would be good in theory but just not work out, in the rain/snow, maybe you like being soaking wet and cold but that's not really my style. Patriots are not going to let it slip away

As much has I wish the Pats would lose this game I just don't feel they will. This is a team that has managed to win 18 in a row, all the while playing against some fairly tough teams. I see some hope in the fact that they have had trouble in the past, notably against this Giants team in week 17, but I don't think Moss is going to be shut down again, and that Brady is going to throw 3 int again. It would take that plus some pretty good play by the Giants offense to get them the...

Scare Tactics?

Okay what in the world were these people thinking? Do they honestly think that there are people out there that believe that the use of nuclear weapons is like this good thing that we ought to do so we need to scare them? The only real purpose this could even possibly have is to instill fear into people to make them think that nuclear warfare is far more likely to occur that it really is. Re: Giants have a chance

I'm not going to deny that they have a chance, however you two seem to be overstating this chance. If you had to bet a large sum of money on this game you would not go for the Giants, you would go for the Patriots. Who on the Giants can cover Moss and Welker? How is Samuals not going to be able to stop Plax from going off? Is Eli really going to continue his streak of not doing stupid stuff? These are big questions that I think lean towards the Patriots. Onto the concerns about Brady,...

Probably the Lakers

So Gasol was finnally traded, but i have no clue what the Grizzlies were thinking. They got some cap space, but why would Elton Brand or Jamison want to go to this team? They got a couple of draft picks that are probably going to be in the late teens or early 20's, not a place where you generally get great players, even if this draft turns out to be deep. Finally the youthful piece they end up getting is a point guard, which is not something they need right now having just spent their...

When I first heard about the trade I was concerned, why would you give up the matrix for a past his prime Shaq? However its still too early to tell what's going to happen. The big question is going to be can Shaq stay healthy? Nets Robbed the Mavs Blind

In an attempt to keep up with the Suns and Lakers it appears that the Mavs will get Jason Kidd on their team. However this might end up being a poor choice, I'm not sure if giving up probably their best post defender (Diop) when the Lakers and Suns both got big time post players is the best choice. Furthermore they lost depth by giving up George and Stackhouse, which could hurt them against the deep west. Finally I'm not really sure if Kidd is that much of an improvment over Harris...
