i'm surprised that no one has mentioned alan weisman's book "the world without us" yet. for those who are unfamiliar, the author explores what the world would be like if humans were to just disappear from the planet. he discusses how (hypothetically) the rest of the world (everything from plants to animals to technology remnants) would live without humans anymore. now i wish i could tell you what he said about the impact of humans on the earth... but i only got to read...

it all depends

as far as which is better, i think i'd agree about calling. besides that "personal touch", just being able to hear the inflection of someone's voice does a lot. i mean, over a text, you can't necessarily tell if someone is being sarcastic or serious, and plus sometimes people shorten and abbreviate things to the point where you may not be able to understand them. (i hate that.) if we're talking about solely cell phones though, i'd have to say texting. i...
