addition....

Today at our oh-so-magnificent (NOT) school cafeteria, they served veal. Yes, ladies and germs...they served veal. How horrible is that?! They served a baby cow. Do you know HOW they kill these animals? It's so gruesome that I don't even want to get into the minute details of it. Anyhow, I got to thinking... we already kill so many animals--chickens, cows, pigs--for our daily consumption. Why must we kill other animals if we are already wasteful with the amount of seafood and meat...

Re: Re: Re: addition....

people play the "animals high up in the food chain kill the lower ones" card quite often when I bring up this subject. that is a completely different subject--in other words, it's basically comparing apples and oranges. Tertiary consumers kill animals lower on the food chain because they simply MUST. it's survival of the fittest. Even if we make the argument that we MUST eat meat to supplement our diet, why do we do it in such cruel ways, and why must we be so...

blah blah

Actually, I'd like to comment on middle school/high school dissections in this post, because there is just Waaay to much to talk about pertaining to actually testing poor little lab rats for scientific purposes. So, I dissected a cow heart in 6th grade. no joke. I dissected a whole array of reptiles and creepishly large insects in 7th grade. i also dissected a shark at some point in junior high. i also dissected fetal pigs, and i also watched some UCIrvine kids induce a heart attack...

Re: Re: Again

Firstly, i'm not religious at all. Secondly, my major is economics and math, so i'm not tooooo sciency either. However, when i took my bio class last year and learned about amino acid sequences, cell bio, and plant crap here and there, i realized more so than ever that the world is created so perfectly...and it's very well thought out. i mean, take a seemingly insignificant thing like flower pollen, for example. Those things can last for eons, even in fire. They can...

Shake yo money maker

My major is economics and actuarial math. Honestly, I don't particularly LIKE math, but I was told that a math major is very pragmatic and lucrative, and it should open up a lot of doors to success. I have a feeling that when I actually get a job, i'm gonna have to drag myself out of bed everyday, and make myself go to work. However, I'm hoping that I'll get a good amount of money with my degree... But I'll be happier if I do something else for a living, ya know?...

Re: Harvest time = dead bunnies! Oh my!

Yes, yes and yes. people always swat flies, step on bugs, kill cockroaches... but it's a bit different if one is mass harvesting animals and feeding them and injecting them with chemicals for the sole purpose of raising them for human consumption, and kill them through pretty inhumane methods.

aliens, big foot.. hmm?

My bio prof tried to convince my class through all this population biology calculations that the lochness monster cannot exist. i believe him! however, i really believe that other forms of life exist outside of earth. It's such a huge universe--it's kind of ignorant not to believe that life other than humans are nonexistent. What about dinosaurs or other prehistoric animals?! Are they all truly extinct or are there some left on earth and in hiding? I mean, the coelocanth was...

Re: Re: aliens, big foot.. hmm?

NO, that's not what the drake equation says. besides, it's pretty outdated anyway... but it does not predict the possibility of life of earth to be slim to none. regardless, frank drake is actually a proponent of the existence of life outside of earth.

Re: Vivisection is immoral.

thank you. i completely agree. i think some products--medications and such--have to be tested on animals, unfortunately. actually, i think it's an extremely controversial point, and people will probably be disgusted with what i have to say on this subject, but why test medications on animals anyway?! they do NO harm to us, and their greatest fears are what humans have in store for them in torture chambers of cigna, johnson & johnson and such... why not test medications and...

Re: Re: blah blah

i think it's completely wrong to allow junior high/elementary school children start dissections so early. junior high kids rarely ever pursue the career path that they hope for in their early years. i think kids who think that they are a bit interested in anatomy and such should be able to CHOOSE in high school whether to take a class that has dissections, etc. nothing wrong with that. anyhow, what disgusts me the MOST is when people find it FUNNY when they dissect. i knnow of a...

Homophobia

From what I've experienced, it seems like guys have a tendency to be less accepting towards gay people and seem to openly denounce them more than girls do. Why is that?! Also, what would you do if you met a really charming guy/girl one day, and after you've gotten to know him/her quite well you were quite attracted to them...but then after a while you found out that he/she had a sex operation--would you still be attracted to them romantically?

Re: Where's the proof?

Where's the proof?! no one can simply enter a conversation, fold his arms and say, "where's the proof," and expect that there will ever be definite proof of anything--at least in science. Where's the proof of string theory or theory of electromagnetism or theory of relativity or theory of evolution? There are endless mathematics, fossil records, and radiophysics that make these phenemena more than mere conjectures and into theories. However, it's quite...

Re: Wishful thinking

does money bring you happiness? Does that happiness outweigh a crappy job setting? to what extent are humans propelled by money? Most lawyers take cases that may go against their morals or personal beliefs on the matter... for example, in a murder trial, a lawyer is actually representing a murderer and is advocating the criminal to get a less harsh sentence... that should go against a person's beliefs, shouldn't it? Most lawyers use the defense that their client is mentally ill...
